Campaign Update - February 14th
Corey Hascall, Portland
Thursday, February 14
Dear friends,
I've got a full, fun, and pom-pom filled campaign update for you, but first a little house keeping.
Happy Valentine's Day! (Today isn't just a day for lovers. To all of our grassroots all-stars- WE LOVE YOU!)
Hustle and smile
Almost 45,000 Democrats turned out this past Sunday to choose their Presidential preference. It was a monumental and thrilling day. Team-Ethan travelled to caucuses in Augusta, Gardiner, Vassalboro, Biddeford, South Portland, Westbrook, Portland, and Bath to visit and talk with Democrats. Our grassroots team volunteered and spoke on behalf of Ethan in dozens of other towns all over the 1st Congressional District.
In fact, YOUR "hustle and smile" helped Team-Ethan exceed the 1500 nomination signatures necessary to get Ethan's name officially on the ballot in June. (But we're not surprised. We already know how great you are.)
Just how many legislators will it take to change a light bulb??:
If you haven't yet heard about the bill Ethan submitted to help fight global climate change, please click here to see the video and learn more. Ethan's bill to ban traditional energy-hogging lightbulbs and transition to more energy-efficient compact fluorescent bulbs is another way that Maine can lead the fight against global warming.
And speaking of our AWESOME grassroots team:
Did any of you catch Al Diamon's recent editorial this week in the Portland Phoenix? Diamon gives the Ethan Strimling for Congress team the best odds to win the 1st Congressional race because of our grassroots muscle. And here's why:
"He [Ethan Strimling] hasn't raised the most cash, but if his plan for a grassroots campaign patterned on former US representative Tom Andrews's successful below-the-radar race in 1990 works out, he won't need that much. The chances he's relocating to Washington in 2009:
3 to 1." The Portland Phoenix, Feb.13th, 2008
Events:
Last Saturday, the Ethan08 Team met with supporters in Kennebec County. We stopped at the A1 Diner in Gardiner (thanks Mike and Neil!), the transfer and recycling station in West Gardiner, and ended at the Red Barn Restaurant in Augusta (thanks Laura!) where Ethan hopped behind the counter to help serve lunch! Many thanks to Amy, Betsy, Janine, Doug, and Nancy for helping us put the morning together. Click here to read more about our visit!
This Saturday the Strimling campaign will travel to Freeport, beginning the day with breakfast at the Freeport Café, then move to the Freeport Recycling and Transfer Station where voters can talk with Ethan over a cup of coffee and donuts while supporters help unload voter's trash. Later, he'll visit LL Bean and the Jameson Tavern. Click here to see this Saturday's Freeport schedule!
