Defend our Middle Class

Dear Friends,
This year, for the first time in a decade, Congress finally passed an increase to the federal minimum wage.
A higher minimum wage is a positive step towards reducing the disastrous income inequality in America, but it’s only a first step.
Between 1997 and 2007, the prices of gas, housing and food all shot up, while workers were stuck with inadequate pay to meet these expenses. This new increase will help workers in the short run, but the cost of living is going to keep rising. Congress can’t wait another decade to revisit this critical issue.
In Congress, I will fight to ensure that the minimum wage keeps up with the cost of living for working class Americans.
As the Chair of the Labor Committee in the Maine Senate, I fought for working families by sponsoring legislation to raise our state minimum wage and automatically adjust it to keep up with inflation. In Congress, I’ll fight for the same common-sense legislation on the federal level.
Our workers are the foundation of our nation’s economy. Their wages shouldn’t be used for political power games. They deserve better, and in Congress, I’ll fight to see that they get better.
Thanks for all you do to help move our country forward, and I’ll see you on the trail!
Yours,
Ethan
