Ethan Strimling Puts the Environment Ahead of Politics

Dear Friend of the Environment,
Living and working in Maine has created in many of us a profound commitment to Maine's natural resources. We know the health of Maine's environment is critical to our future - from outdoor recreation to logging and lobstering, from tourism to biotech and farming.
It is why we have both served on many environmental boards, why we make significant contributions to environmental causes, and why we have tried to run our businesses in the most sustainable ways possible.
But the health of Maine's environment and economy is in danger.
If the earth continues to warm at its current pace, snow will fall less and melt faster, the weather will become more unpredictable, and summers will produce a level of heat and humidity now felt only in the southern states. Our forests will be affected, along with our farms, our ski industry, and our entire Maine economy.
If we can't end our dependence on costly foreign oil, things will only get worse. From the effect of rising gas prices on family budgets to the high costs of energy for our businesses, this dependence is holding down our potential.
That is why we must take strong action.
During his three terms in the Maine State Senate, Ethan Strimling has made the environment one of his top priorities. It is why we are supporting him for Congress.
Ethan sponsored legislation creating Maine's first tax credit for wind development. He has voted time and again to get mercury out of our water. And he has been a tireless supporter of the Land for Maine's Future program. In fact, no Senator voted more often with Maine Audubon last term than Senator Strimling!
Maine has had some real pioneers in Washington on the environmental front. From Margaret Chase Smith to Ed Muskie to George Mitchell, we have been blessed with leaders who always put the environment ahead of partisan politics.
We believe Ethan to be in the same tradition and it is why we hope you will join us in supporting him.
Sincerely,
Leon Gorman & Roger Berle
