Helping Maine's Working Families

We are beginning a winter with potentially record high oil prices, reduced federal heating assistance, high gasoline prices, and shortages already showing up in our food banks. Maine legislators need to do more to help Maine’s working families survive and get behind LD 1697 (An Act to Ensure Fair Wages) to raise the minimum wage by $1.40 as proposed by Sen. Ethan Strimling and Rep. John Tuttle, co-chairs of the Labor Committee. These two legislators have publicly stood up to fight for a long overdue fair wage for Maine’s workers. I hope the rest of the legislature will join them. It is good to see we have two legislators like Sen. Strimling and Rep. Tuttle looking out for Maine people’s needs at a time when federal policy is woefully tilted to benefit the nation’s rich.
